If the pattern goes back further than the to-do list, Ghazal Sheikhtaheri, RP (Qualifying), works in Schema Therapy (depth-oriented and unhurried).

Some people want tools for this week. Others want to trace a pattern to its root. Both are good therapy. Ghazal is currently booking by waitlist (3–4 weeks).

What This Actually Is

When the problem was never effort

Most adults arrive at this conversation having already tried harder. Harder is not the missing ingredient, and it has usually been the only advice on offer for twenty years. What is actually difficult is a specific set of things: starting, sequencing, holding information in place while you use it, and switching between one mode and the next.

(This page is general information, not an assessment. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication, and you do not need a diagnosis for this work to be useful.)

The Approach

Practical, and aimed at where the day actually breaks

Tina works in cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches, which in practice means sessions are structured without being rigid. You name what you want to be different, the two of you work out what is holding it in place, and you leave with something to try before the next one.

The systems are deliberately small. An elaborate one built on a good week will not survive a bad one, and every abandoned system becomes further evidence for a story you have been telling yourself for a long time. That story is the second half of the work, and for most people it turns out to be the half that was costing more.

Questions

Common questions

Is it worth starting therapy if I have never been formally assessed for ADHD?
Yes. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication, and therapy does not require a diagnosis to be useful: the executive-function strategies address what is actually happening in your week, and the self-criticism that tends to accompany it is worth working on either way. If a formal assessment is something you want, that is a conversation for your physician, and the two are not in competition.
Can a psychotherapist diagnose ADHD?
No. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medication, and this page is general information rather than an assessment. What therapy does is work on the difficulties themselves: starting, sequencing, remembering, and the shame that usually accompanies them. If you want a formal assessment, that is a conversation for your physician.
What kind of therapy do you use for ADHD?
Primarily cognitive behavioural and solution-focused work, which means sessions are structured and tend to end with something specific to try before the next one. Where there is trauma or long-standing self-criticism in the picture, the work is trauma-informed and paced to you.
Is online therapy effective for this kind of work?
Yes. Research finds video-delivered therapy comparable to in-person work for the concerns treated here, and executive-function strategies translate without loss. For many adults with ADHD, removing the trip to an appointment also removes one of the more common reasons appointments get missed.
Do I need a referral to start?
No referral is needed to begin psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. A free 15-minute consultation is the usual starting point, to talk about what is bringing you here and whether working together feels right.
What does it cost, and is it covered?
Individual sessions are $180 for 60 minutes, with a free 15-minute consultation to start. Receipts are provided after every session. Tina Abadi is a fully Registered Psychotherapist, so psychotherapy with an RP is commonly covered for her sessions; it is still worth confirming the details with your insurer.

How this work actually goes

ADHD in adults is rarely what the word suggests. It is far less about being unable to sit still and far more about the gap between knowing what to do and being able to start it, about holding several things in mind at once and dropping one, about a week that goes to whatever was loudest rather than to whatever mattered. Attention in ADHD is regulated by interest, novelty and urgency more than by importance, which is why the same person can work for twelve hours on something absorbing and be unable to open a twenty-minute form.

By the time most adults get in touch, the practical difficulty has years of interpretation layered on top of it. Being told to apply yourself. Reports that said bright but not living up to potential. A private, well-rehearsed conclusion that other people are simply trying harder. That layer is not incidental, and it is usually the reason the strategies people have already tried did not stick: it is hard to build a patient system for yourself while believing the difficulty is a character flaw.

So the work goes at both. Cognitive behavioural and solution-focused strategies for initiation, sequencing, working memory and the transitions where days reliably break, built small enough to survive a bad week. And direct work on the self-criticism, which for most adults arriving here is the heavier half. Tina Abadi is a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO #13777) working online across Ontario, in English and Farsi (فارسی).
