If the pattern goes back further than the to-do list, Ghazal Sheikhtaheri, RP (Qualifying), works in Schema Therapy (depth-oriented and unhurried).

Some people want tools for this week. Others want to trace a pattern to its root. Both are good therapy. Ghazal is currently booking by waitlist (3–4 weeks).

What This Actually Is

When the problem was never effort

Most adults arrive at this conversation having already tried harder. Harder is not the missing ingredient, and it has usually been the only advice on offer for twenty years. What is actually difficult is a specific set of things: starting, sequencing, holding information in place while you use it, and switching between one mode and the next.

(This page is general information, not an assessment. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication, and you do not need a diagnosis for this work to be useful.)

The Approach

Practical, and aimed at where the day actually breaks

Tina works in cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches, which in practice means sessions are structured without being rigid. You name what you want to be different, the two of you work out what is holding it in place, and you leave with something to try before the next one.

The systems are deliberately small. An elaborate one built on a good week will not survive a bad one, and every abandoned system becomes further evidence for a story you have been telling yourself for a long time. That story is the second half of the work, and for most people it turns out to be the half that was costing more.

Questions

Common questions

My files move slowly and the deadlines are months away. Why can't I start anything until the last minute?
Because ADHD attention responds to immediacy more than to importance, and a deadline three months out gives your brain almost nothing to push against. The practical work is about creating nearer, smaller starting points that feel real, and external structure that does not depend on willpower. Tina Abadi, RP (CRPO #13777), works in cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches with adults across Ontario, online.
I'm a student at uOttawa, Carleton or Algonquin. Can I work with Tina alongside campus services?
Yes. Campus counselling and accessibility services are built around student life and academic accommodations; sessions with Tina focus on day-to-day executive function and the self-criticism that often comes with ADHD. If you already use campus supports, mention it in your free consultation so the work fits together. Sessions are online, and insurance receipts are provided after every session; check with your student health plan about coverage.
Can a psychotherapist diagnose ADHD?
No. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medication, and this page is general information rather than an assessment. What therapy does is work on the difficulties themselves: starting, sequencing, remembering, and the shame that usually accompanies them. If you want a formal assessment, that is a conversation for your physician.
What kind of therapy do you use for ADHD?
Primarily cognitive behavioural and solution-focused work, which means sessions are structured and tend to end with something specific to try before the next one. Where there is trauma or long-standing self-criticism in the picture, the work is trauma-informed and paced to you.
Is online therapy effective for this kind of work?
Yes. Research finds video-delivered therapy comparable to in-person work for the concerns treated here, and executive-function strategies translate without loss. For many adults with ADHD, removing the trip to an appointment also removes one of the more common reasons appointments get missed.
Do I need a referral to start?
No referral is needed to begin psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. A free 15-minute consultation is the usual starting point, to talk about what is bringing you here and whether working together feels right.
What does it cost, and is it covered?
Individual sessions are $180 for 60 minutes, with a free 15-minute consultation to start. Receipts are provided after every session. Tina Abadi is a fully Registered Psychotherapist, so psychotherapy with an RP is commonly covered for her sessions; it is still worth confirming the details with your insurer.

ADHD Therapy for Ottawa adults

A great deal of Ottawa's work runs on long horizons. A policy file can take months to move through consultation, drafting and sign-off; a research proposal or a thesis chapter can sit for a whole term before anyone asks to see it. For an adult with ADHD that is a demanding environment, because attention tends to follow urgency and interest, and a long horizon supplies neither until the final week. The output is often fine. The cost is the late nights, the dread in between, and a private conviction that everyone else finds this easier.

Students meet their own version of the same problem. The University of Ottawa, Carleton, Algonquin College and La Cité bring many adult learners to the city, and a self-directed term, with a handful of deadlines spread across months, is exactly where executive function gets tested. Campus counselling and accessibility offices are a sensible first stop, and individual therapy can sit alongside them, focused on the day-to-day skills and on the self-talk rather than on accommodations.

The work with Tina is cognitive behavioural and concrete: turning distant deadlines into near ones that are real enough to act on, building a simple way to capture what a meeting-heavy day drops, and keeping systems small enough to survive a week that moves between home and the office. Alongside it, the self-criticism that tends to build after years of hearing that you are capable but inconsistent. Sessions are online across Ontario, in English or Farsi, so there is no appointment to reach across town.
