Farsi Trauma Therapy in Ontario
Some things happened in Farsi. The words for them, the voices, the silences, still live in that language. Saying them in English can feel like describing someone else's life from across a room. Trauma therapy in Farsi, درمان تروما به فارسی, means you don't have to translate the hardest parts of your story before you can begin. With Armin Ovaisy-Moakhar, RP (Qualifying), who is experienced in evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy with adults and couples. Online across Ontario, in Farsi, English or both.

Why language matters in trauma work
Many of us switch languages mid-sentence: explaining in English, then dropping into Farsi when something touches a nerve. Memories often keep the language they were lived in. A word from home can bring back a whole room, a smell, a tone of voice, in a way a translation can't.
In trauma therapy, that matters. You can speak به زبان خودتان, in your own language, and move between Farsi and English whenever you need to. Nothing has to be explained twice.
Do any of these feel familiar?
- Something that happened in Iran, on the way here, or since you arrived still feels close, even years later.
- News from home pulls you back into fear or helplessness, and it is hard to switch off.
- You learned to stay strong and keep quiet, and now that silence feels heavy.
- You carry your family's fears alongside your own.
- You have thought about trauma therapy, but couldn't imagine doing it in English.
If any of this sounds like you, you are not weak and you are not overreacting. These are human responses to experiences that were too much to take in at the time.
How Armin works with trauma
Armin works with several trauma-focused approaches, and the choice depends on what fits you. Each has its own page:
- EMDR therapy: a structured way of working with distressing memories using side-to-side eye movements, taps or tones.
- Brainspotting: working with where you look and what you notice in your body, often with fewer words.
- IFS therapy: getting to know the different parts of you, including the ones that work hard to protect you.
- Somatic therapy: bringing the body into the work, gently and in small steps.
- Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples: when trauma plays out in the pattern between two partners.
You don't need to know which approach you want. لازم نیست همهچیز را یکجا بگویید: you don't have to say everything at once. That is what the free consultation is for.
Nobody can promise what therapy will change for you, or how long it will take. The work goes آرام و قدمبهقدم, slowly and step by step, at a pace you can manage.
Who this may fit, and who it may not
It may fit if
- You would like to work on trauma in Farsi, in English, or moving between the two.
- You want a therapist who works with trauma-focused approaches like EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS and somatic work.
- You are an adult, or a couple, living anywhere in Ontario, and can find a private space for online sessions.
Something else may fit better if
- You are in crisis right now, or you are not safe where you are. Please start with 988 or 911, listed below. You can ask 988 for an interpreter.
- You are living with ongoing violence or danger, including at home. Safety in the present usually comes first. You can say this privately in the free consultation, on your own.
- You need medical, psychiatric or in-person care, or more support than a weekly online session can give. A doctor or local services may need to come first, or alongside therapy.
- You are under 18. Armin works with adults and couples.
- You want to trace long-standing patterns back to childhood and family, rather than work with specific memories. Schema therapy with Ghazal may fit better.
- You want to meet in person. All sessions at NoorMinds are online.
