If the pattern goes back further than the to-do list, Ghazal Sheikhtaheri, RP (Qualifying), works in Schema Therapy (depth-oriented and unhurried).

Some people want tools for this week. Others want to trace a pattern to its root. Both are good therapy. Ghazal is currently booking by waitlist (3–4 weeks).

What This Actually Is

When the problem was never effort

Most adults arrive at this conversation having already tried harder. Harder is not the missing ingredient, and it has usually been the only advice on offer for twenty years. What is actually difficult is a specific set of things: starting, sequencing, holding information in place while you use it, and switching between one mode and the next.

(This page is general information, not an assessment. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication, and you do not need a diagnosis for this work to be useful.)

The Approach

Practical, and aimed at where the day actually breaks

Tina works in cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches, which in practice means sessions are structured without being rigid. You name what you want to be different, the two of you work out what is holding it in place, and you leave with something to try before the next one.

The systems are deliberately small. An elaborate one built on a good week will not survive a bad one, and every abandoned system becomes further evidence for a story you have been telling yourself for a long time. That story is the second half of the work, and for most people it turns out to be the half that was costing more.

Questions

Common questions

My child was recently assessed and a lot of it sounded like me. Where does an adult even start?
That is one of the most common routes in, and a consultation is a reasonable place to begin. Tina Abadi, RP (CRPO #13777), works with adults on executive function and on the self-blame that has usually built up by this point. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication; if a formal assessment is what you want, that is a conversation for your physician, and therapy is useful either way.
I drive the 404 or the 407 every day and my evenings disappear. Can ADHD therapy fit around that?
Yes. Sessions are online, so there is no second trip after the drive home, and the strategies are built for the time and energy you actually have left rather than for an ideal week. Tina Abadi, RP (CRPO #13777), works with adults across Ontario in English or Farsi.
Can a psychotherapist diagnose ADHD?
No. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medication, and this page is general information rather than an assessment. What therapy does is work on the difficulties themselves: starting, sequencing, remembering, and the shame that usually accompanies them. If you want a formal assessment, that is a conversation for your physician.
What kind of therapy do you use for ADHD?
Primarily cognitive behavioural and solution-focused work, which means sessions are structured and tend to end with something specific to try before the next one. Where there is trauma or long-standing self-criticism in the picture, the work is trauma-informed and paced to you.
Is online therapy effective for this kind of work?
Yes. Research finds video-delivered therapy comparable to in-person work for the concerns treated here, and executive-function strategies translate without loss. For many adults with ADHD, removing the trip to an appointment also removes one of the more common reasons appointments get missed.
Do I need a referral to start?
No referral is needed to begin psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. A free 15-minute consultation is the usual starting point, to talk about what is bringing you here and whether working together feels right.
What does it cost, and is it covered?
Individual sessions are $180 for 60 minutes, with a free 15-minute consultation to start. Receipts are provided after every session. Tina Abadi is a fully Registered Psychotherapist, so psychotherapy with an RP is commonly covered for her sessions; it is still worth confirming the details with your insurer.

Markham

ADHD Therapy for Markham adults

About one employed Markham resident in six works in the natural and applied sciences, and a good deal of that work suits an ADHD brain surprisingly well: hard problems, deep focus, a deadline that concentrates the mind. What it does not suit is everything around the problem (the status updates, the expense claims, the ticket that should have been closed last week). Plenty of adults with ADHD are good at the difficult part of their job and quietly drowning in the easy part, and the gap between the two confuses them as much as the people they work with.

The commute adds its own weight. In 2021 nearly half of Markham commuters, 48.6%, spent 30 minutes or more getting to work, most of them behind the wheel. Attention that relies on buffers loses them on a long drive: there is no slack left to catch the forgotten task, and the evening, when the household paperwork is waiting, arrives with very little left in the tank. Many adults also first wonder about their own attention while sitting in a meeting about their child's, when the description of the child sounds uncomfortably familiar.

The work is structured and concrete. Tina uses cognitive behavioural strategies for starting, sequencing and following through, built around the week you actually have, drive included, and she makes room for the part that is not about productivity at all: the long-standing sense of being one missed deadline from being found out. Sessions are online across Ontario, in English or Farsi, so the appointment itself is never another trip on the highway.
