Some people want tools for this week. Others want to trace a pattern to its root. Both are good therapy. Ghazal is currently booking by waitlist (3–4 weeks).

What This Actually Is

When the problem was never effort

Most adults arrive at this conversation having already tried harder. Harder is not the missing ingredient, and it has usually been the only advice on offer for twenty years. What is actually difficult is a specific set of things: starting, sequencing, holding information in place while you use it, and switching between one mode and the next.

(This page is general information, not an assessment. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication, and you do not need a diagnosis for this work to be useful.)

The Approach

Practical, and aimed at where the day actually breaks

Tina works in cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches, which in practice means sessions are structured without being rigid. You name what you want to be different, the two of you work out what is holding it in place, and you leave with something to try before the next one.

The systems are deliberately small. An elaborate one built on a good week will not survive a bad one, and every abandoned system becomes further evidence for a story you have been telling yourself for a long time. That story is the second half of the work, and for most people it turns out to be the half that was costing more.

Questions

Common questions

The train schedule is fixed and I keep missing it. Is that an ADHD thing, and can therapy help?
Trouble judging time and getting out the door is common with ADHD, and a timetable with few options makes it costly. Tina Abadi, RP (CRPO #13777), works on the practical side, such as buffers, reminders and routines planned backwards from the fixed time, and on the frustration that builds when it keeps happening. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD; you do not need a diagnosis for this work to be useful. Sessions are online across Ontario, in English or Farsi.
Can I have ADHD therapy in Farsi in Richmond Hill?
Yes. Tina Abadi, RP, offers online ADHD therapy in Farsi or English, so you can talk about attention, routines and family expectations in whichever language feels natural. Sessions are by video, for adults anywhere in Richmond Hill or elsewhere in Ontario.
Can a psychotherapist diagnose ADHD?
No. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medication, and this page is general information rather than an assessment. What therapy does is work on the difficulties themselves: starting, sequencing, remembering, and the shame that usually accompanies them. If you want a formal assessment, that is a conversation for your physician.
What kind of therapy do you use for ADHD?
Primarily cognitive behavioural and solution-focused work, which means sessions are structured and tend to end with something specific to try before the next one. Where there is trauma or long-standing self-criticism in the picture, the work is trauma-informed and paced to you.
Is online therapy effective for this kind of work?
Yes. Research finds video-delivered therapy comparable to in-person work for the concerns treated here, and executive-function strategies translate without loss. For many adults with ADHD, removing the trip to an appointment also removes one of the more common reasons appointments get missed.
Do I need a referral to start?
No referral is needed to begin psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. A free 15-minute consultation is the usual starting point, to talk about what is bringing you here and whether working together feels right.
What does it cost, and is it covered?
Individual sessions are $180 for 60 minutes, with a free 15-minute consultation to start. Receipts are provided after every session. Tina Abadi is a fully Registered Psychotherapist, so psychotherapy with an RP is commonly covered for her sessions; it is still worth confirming the details with your insurer.

Richmond Hill

ADHD Therapy for Richmond Hill adults

Getting to work from Richmond Hill often depends on timing. GO trains on the Richmond Hill line run only at weekday rush hours, so a missed train can mean a long wait or a different route home, and for an adult with ADHD, whose sense of time is already unreliable, a timetable with no second chances becomes a daily source of stress. The roads are not much simpler: the Yonge North Subway Extension, which will eventually carry Line 1 up to Richmond Hill Centre at Highway 7, is under construction, and building work along a busy corridor is rarely kind to anyone's schedule.

What tends to bring people in is not one late arrival but the pile-up: the missed train, the form that sat unopened, the appointment that slipped, and the private conclusion, built over years, that other people are simply trying harder. In families where difficulty paying attention was treated as a matter of discipline or respect, that conclusion can run deep, and talking it through in the language the family used can make it easier to untangle.

The work is practical. Tina uses cognitive behavioural strategies to build structure that survives a commuting week (buffers around the fixed times that cannot move, reminders outside your head for what working memory drops, and a plan for the days when the schedule collapses anyway). She works in English and Farsi (فارسی), and sessions are online across Ontario, so the appointment itself is never one more departure to time.
