If the pattern goes back further than the to-do list, Ghazal Sheikhtaheri, RP (Qualifying), works in Schema Therapy (depth-oriented and unhurried).

Some people want tools for this week. Others want to trace a pattern to its root. Both are good therapy. Ghazal is currently booking by waitlist (3–4 weeks).

What This Actually Is

When the problem was never effort

Most adults arrive at this conversation having already tried harder. Harder is not the missing ingredient, and it has usually been the only advice on offer for twenty years. What is actually difficult is a specific set of things: starting, sequencing, holding information in place while you use it, and switching between one mode and the next.

(This page is general information, not an assessment. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication, and you do not need a diagnosis for this work to be useful.)

The Approach

Practical, and aimed at where the day actually breaks

Tina works in cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches, which in practice means sessions are structured without being rigid. You name what you want to be different, the two of you work out what is holding it in place, and you leave with something to try before the next one.

The systems are deliberately small. An elaborate one built on a good week will not survive a bad one, and every abandoned system becomes further evidence for a story you have been telling yourself for a long time. That story is the second half of the work, and for most people it turns out to be the half that was costing more.

Questions

Common questions

I'm a grad student at McMaster and I keep missing my own deadlines. Is that ADHD, or just grad school?
It can be hard to tell from the inside, and you don't need to settle the question to get help. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD, but Tina Abadi, RP (CRPO #13777), works with the day-to-day difficulties: starting, sequencing, estimating time, and following through on long projects with distant deadlines. Sessions are CBT-based and practical, online across Ontario, in English or Farsi.
I was raised to just get on with it. Isn't therapy for ADHD a bit soft?
It is closer to the opposite. The work is practical and specific: what breaks down, where, and what to put there instead. Tina Abadi, RP (CRPO #13777), works in cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches, so sessions end with something to try rather than something to think about. The part that is not purely practical, the years of being told to try harder, turns out to matter too, because it is usually what makes the strategies fail.
Can a psychotherapist diagnose ADHD?
No. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medication, and this page is general information rather than an assessment. What therapy does is work on the difficulties themselves: starting, sequencing, remembering, and the shame that usually accompanies them. If you want a formal assessment, that is a conversation for your physician.
What kind of therapy do you use for ADHD?
Primarily cognitive behavioural and solution-focused work, which means sessions are structured and tend to end with something specific to try before the next one. Where there is trauma or long-standing self-criticism in the picture, the work is trauma-informed and paced to you.
Is online therapy effective for this kind of work?
Yes. Research finds video-delivered therapy comparable to in-person work for the concerns treated here, and executive-function strategies translate without loss. For many adults with ADHD, removing the trip to an appointment also removes one of the more common reasons appointments get missed.
Do I need a referral to start?
No referral is needed to begin psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. A free 15-minute consultation is the usual starting point, to talk about what is bringing you here and whether working together feels right.
What does it cost, and is it covered?
Individual sessions are $180 for 60 minutes, with a free 15-minute consultation to start. Receipts are provided after every session. Tina Abadi is a fully Registered Psychotherapist, so psychotherapy with an RP is commonly covered for her sessions; it is still worth confirming the details with your insurer.

Hamilton

ADHD Therapy for Hamilton adults

Statistics Canada's 2021 figures put the average commute in the Hamilton metropolitan area at 30.6 minutes, the third longest of Canada's 15 largest metropolitan areas after Toronto and Oshawa, and nearly 14% of commuters spent an hour or more getting to work. For an adult with ADHD, a commute is not just lost time. It adds transitions (leaving the house, finding parking, catching a train at West Harbour or at Confederation GO, which opened in Stoney Creek in October 2025, then switching into work mode), and transitions are where the day usually breaks. Plans made in the car are gone by the time there is a chance to act on them.

The work itself can add load. In healthcare, research and teaching, the day is shaped by charting, handovers, grant deadlines, grading and rotating shifts: many small tasks that must be started, sequenced and remembered while someone else sets the timetable. Those are classic pressure points for executive function. And with McMaster, Mohawk College and Redeemer University in the city, many students are learning to run their own schedules for the first time, without the structure that carried them through high school.

The work with Tina is practical and specific. Together you name accurately what is executive function and what is not, put small, sturdy anchors at the transitions where things go wrong, and build systems that survive a changing rota or an exam season rather than only a quiet week. You also treat the self-criticism as a target in its own right. Adults who were told for years to try harder often carry a commentary far harsher than anything they would say to someone else, and it is usually what makes good strategies fail.

If you are a student, campus counselling and accessibility services can sit alongside this work. Sessions are online across Ontario, in English or Farsi, so there is no extra trip across the city after a long day, and evening times are available.
