Something to use this week
CBT and solution-focused work, so sessions end with a concrete step rather than a general principle.
When deadline-driven study gives way to self-directed work, attention difficulties that were easy to miss can come into view. ADHD support for adults in Waterloo, online.
If the pattern goes back further than the to-do list, Ghazal Sheikhtaheri, RP (Qualifying), works in Schema Therapy (depth-oriented and unhurried).
Some people want tools for this week. Others want to trace a pattern to its root. Both are good therapy. Ghazal is currently booking by waitlist (3–4 weeks).
Most adults arrive at this conversation having already tried harder. Harder is not the missing ingredient, and it has usually been the only advice on offer for twenty years. What is actually difficult is a specific set of things: starting, sequencing, holding information in place while you use it, and switching between one mode and the next.
(This page is general information, not an assessment. A Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose ADHD or prescribe medication, and you do not need a diagnosis for this work to be useful.)
Tina works in cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches, which in practice means sessions are structured without being rigid. You name what you want to be different, the two of you work out what is holding it in place, and you leave with something to try before the next one.
The systems are deliberately small. An elaborate one built on a good week will not survive a bad one, and every abandoned system becomes further evidence for a story you have been telling yourself for a long time. That story is the second half of the work, and for most people it turns out to be the half that was costing more.
CBT and solution-focused work, so sessions end with a concrete step rather than a general principle.
Tina Abadi, RP, CRPO #13777, with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.
Including the part of this that was never only about focus. Sessions in either language.
No commute and no waiting room, so the trip to an appointment is one less thing to manage.
Insurance receipts provided after every session. Tina is a fully Registered Psychotherapist, so psychotherapy with an RP is commonly covered; please confirm the details with your insurer.

Waterloo skews young: in the 2021 census roughly seven in ten residents were of working age, between 15 and 64, a profile shaped by the city's large student population. Academic life can hide attention difficulties for years: a syllabus, an exam date and a group deadline supply the structure and the urgency that an ADHD brain struggles to generate on its own. It is often the move from coursework to self-directed work, a thesis, a work placement or a first job, that makes the difficulty visible. For international graduates that shift can arrive together with a new work permit, a new city and a working day conducted in a second language.
Knowledge work in the city's fintech, insurance and technology sectors then asks for exactly the executive functions ADHD makes expensive: long meetings, self-managed priorities, documentation, and follow-through on projects that stretch over quarters rather than weeks. A meeting ends without a clear next step, and the step you meant to take has vanished by the afternoon. People describe it as losing something they used to have, when what has actually changed is that nobody is supplying the deadlines any more. The shame that follows, the sense of being about to be found out, is often the heavier half of the problem.
The work with Tina Abadi, RP, is cognitive behavioural and solution-focused: turning long horizons into near-term starts, building external structure that does not depend on panic, protecting sleep, and working directly on the self-criticism. Campus counselling at the University of Waterloo, Laurier and Conestoga is there for students; online sessions can add continuity across work terms, moves within Ontario and the step from student to employee. Some people arrive unsure whether ADHD is even the right word, and that question is welcome, although a Registered Psychotherapist does not diagnose. Sessions are in English or Farsi.
