Farsi and English, in the same room
The session moves between them as your family does, so no one is arguing in a second language.
A lakeside life bought with a long drive south, and a family with less time in it than anyone planned. Sessions in Farsi and English, online. For families with teens, adolescents and young adults. Sessions are virtual across Ontario, in English and Farsi.
For individual work in Farsi, Ghazal Sheikhtaheri, RP (Qualifying), offers Schema Therapy, depth-oriented and rooted in her own experience of immigration.
Family sessions are with Tina. If one of you would also like a space of your own, Ghazal works with adults individually; she is currently booking by waitlist (3–4 weeks).
Very little of this work is about a single argument. It is usually about what each generation takes for granted: what respect looks like, what a parent is owed, how much of a life is a private matter, and how much of a decision belongs to the person making it. Those assumptions used to be shared by everyone in the room. Often they are not any more, and everyone involved can still be entirely reasonable.
(This page is general information, not clinical advice. A free consultation is the usual place to start.)
Language is part of the mechanism here, not a detail. It is ordinary for parents to think and feel in Farsi while children answer in English, and for the weight of a sentence to survive in one language and not the other. A session held only in English asks the parents to argue in their second language; only in Farsi, and it asks the same of the children. These move between both.
The work itself is practical. Emotionally focused and cognitive behavioural approaches for the conversations that keep going wrong. It is for families with teens, adolescents and young adults. The aim is a different conversation at home this week, not a new theory about your household.
Nobody is put on trial in the room.

Families move to Barrie for the lake and for space, and many pay for it with some of the longest commutes in the province. The cost shows up at home before it shows up anywhere else: a parent who arrives with nothing left, a household that runs on logistics, and the slow realisation that the family you moved here to have is the one getting the least of you.
For a Persian-speaking family it comes with a second thinness. Barrie is a long way from the Farsi-speaking centres of the GTA, so there is no casual community keeping the language and the customs alive around your children. What was ambient in Iran has to be deliberate here, and the effort of that falls almost entirely on the parents, often while they are already depleted.
The work is practical and paced for tired people. Conversations that keep going wrong, unpicked and rebuilt; it is for families with teens, adolescents and young adults; and room for the grief underneath, which both generations usually have and neither usually says. In Farsi, English, or both, online across Ontario.
